Description

Show HN: My Mac slept through its cron jobs, so I made goguma, a menu bar app Hi HN, like many of you likely do, I run cron jobs throughout the day/night, but can't afford to have my laptop open all day.

So, I decided to build goguma, a free, open-source Mac menu bar app that wakes your Mac only when a cron job/automation is scheduled to run. Unlike caffeinate, Amphetamine, or Adrafinil, which can only keep an awake machine awake, goguma can wake a sleeping machine.

It automatically imports all your jobs across launchd, crontab, Hermes, etc, alongside detecting agent activity through hooks. The Mac menu bar app will also show you which job it'll next wake for.

It remains safe by skipping wake-ups if it's lower than a battery threshold, and lets the mac sleep if it starts overheating.

Happy to hear any feedback and suggestions!

Show HN: A new way to read books, magnifying in and out After watching The Odyssey, I thought it would be cool to check out some scenes from the source in detail, but I don't have time to read the whole book. So I came up with a sort of zoom/microscope, that allows to see the whole book at a glance and then zoom in (by pinching) on the part I'm interested in. I can do so down to the actual source text and get the authentic feel the author intended, at the same time I better understand where am I in the text and also the character and places are clickable so I can quickly orient myself on the context. Moreover each character has relationships listed and a map of relationships can be opened from there https://book.curiora.space/relations/
